Welcome
The Bloody Chicklets Hockey Association is a fantasy hockey league like no
other.
This league represents two separate and distinct visions. They were to have a
league that represented a post lockout NHL with a new economic model that
returns to it's historical roots, and to have an Internet simulation league
that was run the right way and represented a model closer to the actual NHL.
Post Lockout NHL
The key points of our post lockout vision are;
Return to historical roots
The NHL has contracted six teams (ANA, LA, NAS, FLA, ATL, CAR), and moved an
additional four teams to Canadian and northern US markets (PHO->WPG,
TB->QUE, DAL->POR, SJ->SEA). The new 24 team league has been
re-organized back into a four division league using traditional division and
conference names.
The contracts of all players on the contracted teams were voided and they are
all considered unrestricted free agents.
Note: The new NHL cities of Portland, and Seattle have some potential be changed
to other cities by their GMs.
New economic model
A salary cap/tax was instituted, while giving the players more freedom of
movement through free agency. A revenue sharing plan was developed to ensure an
equal playing field for all the teams in the league.
In an effort to get under the salary cap and building the organizations in the
GM's view, all teams will have the option of voiding up to four
contracts. This included players, coaches, and scouts.
NHL Model
Contracting The league uses a protracted free agency period that lasts
two to three weeks. During this time GMs can bid on resources (players,
coaches, and scouts) in an interactive manner and the contracting engine
will handle bid increases.
Resources will consider the bids, and may propose counter offers. Depending on
the position in the off-season, quality of contract offers, and time since
their last offer, a resource will eventually decide to sign a contract.
A team's contract offers will not be made available to other GMs.
Player Apathy
In the NHL coaches tend to have a short shelf live. In an effort to reflect
this and encourage/require occasional coaching changes player apathy towards
their coach will be tracked. Once players begin to tune out their coach, their
on-ice performance will suffer. Teams with poor player apathy will be notified
of problems in the dressing room.
Uncertainty
Drafting and trading for players in the NHL represents a certain level of
uncertainty. Based on scouting a GM may overvalue or undervalue certain
players.
In an effort to reflect this, a scouting system is used to blur player
attributes for each GM. The ability of a team's scouts will play a significant
role in the continued success of that team.
Rerates
Player, coach, and scout rerates will be done using custom algorithms to
ensure a healthly talent balance is maintained in the league.
